Turning Rivalry into Results: The Power of Collaboration in the Dental Field | Dr. Chethan Chetty | 601

I just had the former president of the Academy of General Dentistry and owner of a multi-doctor practice on the podcast: Dr. Chethan Chetty

  1. “People don’t solve problems where they feel exposed, they solve them where they feel understood.”
Solving team conflict publicly can backfire; smaller, private conversations work better. Group settings often create defensiveness, while safe environments create honesty and real solutions.
  2.
  3. “What built the practice is rarely what scales it.”
Growth requires letting go, doing everything yourself will eventually slow everything down. Holding onto control may feel safe, but it limits expansion and leadership development.
  4.
  5. “Great dentistry fills chairs, but strong operations fill the future.”
Many dentists stay small by thinking like clinicians, not business owners. Without operational thinking... systems, delegation, scalability... the business plateaus.
  6.
  7. “Confusion comes from watching others, clarity comes from knowing yourself.”
A practice should reflect the owner’s values, not react to competitors. Reactive decisions create inconsistency, while clarity builds stability.
  8.
  9. “Patients don’t stay because of what you do, they stay because of how you make them feel.”
Trust, not tactics, is what drives patient loyalty. Long-term growth comes from relationships, not short-term strategies.
  10.
  11. “A decision without follow-through quietly becomes a failure.”
Most “bad decisions” aren’t wrong, they just aren’t executed. Without ownership and structure, even good ideas collapse.
  12.
  13. “Not everything that moves needs your reaction, some things need your patience.”
Data matters, but obsessing over it daily can lead to poor decisions. Short-term metrics can create anxiety and reactive leadership.
  14.
  15. “You can’t outwork a blind spot, but you can outlearn it.”
Mentorship accelerates growth by exposing what you can’t see on your own, shortening the learning curve.
  16.
  17. “Leadership isn’t having the final say, it’s carrying the final responsibility.”
The best leaders don’t decide alone, they gather input, then guide the team forward with accountability.
