Technology reaches every aspect of our lives, including dentistry. One of the latest advancements in dental technology that helps our staff in their diagnostic ability, is the 3D Cone Beam X-Ray Scanner which is helping many patients in our Newport Beach office. This introduction is an example of blending advanced technology with Dr. Dana Rockey's philosophy and wellness approach to dentistry in order deliver the highest standard of health care and dental care to patients.

The 3D Cone Beam X-Ray Scanner is similar to a CAT scan machine which is used to take detailed images of various areas of the body. We’re actually able to do that now in our Newport Beach dental office. We can take a three dimensional (3D) picture of a person's neck and head area, the mouth, sinuses and throat with a single pass of the x-ray head, which takes only fourteen seconds. That image gives us a wealth of data and views in tremendous detail which has never been available until recently.  

Numerous patients experience jaw pain, clicking or popping, limited opening, deviation of their jaw on opening, or teeth grinding at night. That’s all a function of the way a person's teeth come together – the muscles and the (jaw) joint itself. It’s kind of a triad, as we call it. This allows Dr. Rockey and his staff to be able to look to see whether there’s any pathology, bone deterioration, or anything going on with the roots of the teeth.

Here, Dr. Dana Rockey, DMD, shows how this advanced dental technology was used to help a patient who was experiencing an unusual situation. We were able to make a definitive diagnosis as to what was going on and ultimately solve a problem for this patient.
