Synopsis:
This program describes a simple, easy and predictable technique to create beautiful, lifelike class II direct resin restorations with the correct anatomical contours and emergence profiles and ideal proximal contacts. The technique uses basic composite shades and only two instruments and requires very little in the way of finishing or occlusal adjustment. All of this can be achieved in a timeframe which is realistic for the average GP.

Educational Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:
  • Understand the concept of Class II preparation design and cavity management
  • Understand the "Simplified" Placement Technique using minimal instrumentation
  • Understand the advantages of precise contouring and adaptation prior to resin polymerization
  • Understand how to achieve predictable anatomical contact points using the V3 Matrix system
  • Understand the concept of a straightforward finishing technique with reduced rotary instrumentation
Description of Speaker:
Qualified at the Royal London Hospital in 1995, Jason Smithson has achieved a number of awards including The Constance Klein Memorial,The Stafford Millar, and The Malcolm Jenkins Scholarships, The American Association of Endodontics Prize and the Overall Award for Clinical Dentistry.

After spending 3 years in oral surgery residency in London, he relocated to Cornwall in the extreme south-west of England and now has a special interest in Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry.

His specific interest is composite resin artistry and he has presented to dentists both locally, nationally and internationally (USA and Canada) on this topic.

He has given hands on programs in the UK and USA on behalf of GCUK, GCAmerica, Optident and Triodent. He is a UK “Opinion Leader” for Cosmedent (Enlighten Smiles) and Ivoclar-Vivadent. Jason recently achieved a Diplomate Status in Restorative Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons (England) and is working towards FFGDP and an MSc.

He is a full member of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and The Society for Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry.Jason is a past Chairman of The Cornwall Independent Practitioners Group: one of the largest independent study groups in the UK. In 2009, he was awarded the Pankey Scholarship.
