MELVILLE, N.Y.—Henry Schein recently announced that Steven W. Kess, the company’s vice president of global professional relations, was recently awarded the American Association of Public Health Dentistry’s (AAPHD) public service award for 2017. This award is presented annually to an individual for substantial contribution through action related to public health dentistry issues.

Kess was lauded for representing the culture of Henry Schein and the company’s commitment to global corporate social responsibility, as demonstrated through the Henry Schein Cares program.

“We at the AAPHD greatly appreciate the actions Mr. Kess has taken toward improving public health on behalf of some of our nation’s most vulnerable and underserved people,” said AAPHD Immediate Past President Frances Kim, DDS, MPH, DrPH. “His commitment to serving the public good should serve as an example to all those who are interested in making a positive impact on our shared community, and we congratulate him on his award.”

Kess, who also serves as president of the nonprofit Henry Schein Cares Foundation, currently serves on the boards of the American Medical Association Foundation, Alliance for Oral Health Across Borders, and the Santa Fe Group. He has previously served on the boards of the ADA Foundation, Oral Health America, the U.S. National Oral Health Alliance, and Friends of the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research.

“I have been fortunate to play a part in a number of programs and initiatives that have expanded access to oral health care for people in need and advanced the understanding that oral health and overall health are inextricably linked,” Kess said. “Thank you to the AAPHD for this honor, which I share with my colleagues at Henry Schein and the countless oral health professionals, industry partners, and nongovernmental organizations who share our commitment to ‘helping health happen.’”
