Synopsis:
NEVER DO IT or NEVER FEAR? For most restorative dentists connecting teeth and implants can be very confusing. What are the risks and benefits to connecting? When is it safe and when is it not indicated? This course teaches the mechanics of connection and the risks associated with it. There are times when connecting teeth and implants is necessary or even preferable to other options available for the success of the restorative dentistry. Those situations are discussed and illustrated by Dr. Frank Spear with case successes and failures shown to give a thorough understanding of what to do and what not to do.

Educational Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:
  • Understand the mechanics of connecting teeth and implants.
  • Understand the risks of connecting teeth and implants.
  • Learn what needs to be understood in treatment planning these types of cases
  • Identify the specific cases where connecting natural teeth to implants makes sense
  • Examine the methods of turning a risking case into one that will have more predictable, positive results

Dr. Spear clearly states the clinical situations in which he would splint implants and teeth. He also gives several examples complete with photos. Very informative.

I appreciated Dr. Spear's experience and ability to clearly explain advanced topics. Of course splinting implants to natural teeth is never ideal. But there are certain times when it can be beneficial, and Dr. Spear clearly lays out when what complications can occur and how to mitigate them. Great course, I highly recommend it.
Quite Informative...BUT, see coments.

Dr. Sphear, How can you "LOGICALLY DEFFEND" if not "SCIENTIFICALLY explain" the incidences of NATURAL TEETH being "INTRUDED" just because of them(intrudes) being located in the... 1. PROXIMITY/VISCINITY to an implant(cuspid), 2. And or being some how "ASSOCIATED WITH" to an IMPLANT or IMPLANTS(#31). I am not ignoring your clinical samples. I watched the video at least 4 times and I am going to watch it over and again, only to find out if I may have missed your mentioning of "the occlusal and or associated periodontal changes in the opposing arch(teeth)". Your concept of "bond-connected" natural tooth going no where makes perfect sense and is "PERFECT SCIENCE" too. Can you "hypothesise" and explain "intrusion"(#8,9) by "conventionally cementing" this prosthesis in place. I am surprised to hear from you that, you mentioned "gradual and chronic calcium build-up under the crown" as a "possible intrusion factor". Is it even worth consider mentioning it?... be it any one else's proposition!!!
