Over the past 15 years the use of information technology in dental offices has dramatically increased. Computers and computer based systems are now used for patient information, billing, patient treatment planning, digital x-rays, intraoral cameras, practice management, and on and on. These tools are designed to help your patients with higher quality dental care and assist you and your staff in efficiently running a profitable practice. One area often overlooked in this "technology rush" is intra-office communications. It is not uncommon to see a practice with computers in each operatory and the staff still using Post-it Notes® or yelling down the halls to communicate. | | Comlite System’s LCS4000 message system |
There is a better way to communicate and solve many problems. Recent HIPAA regulations require new standards for patient confidentiality. Utilizing a light signaling system ensures your patients’ privacy while providing you and your staff an effective way to communicate.
The Comlite LCS4000 offers a quiet, discreet way to communicate messages ranging from patient arrivals, important phone calls, and notification of hygiene checks to needing an assistant or emergency situations. It is the fourth generation of light signaling systems offered by Comlite since its inception in 1984. A unit is placed at the front desk and in each operatory or open bay, and other areas such as private offices, staff lounges, labs, sterilization areas and consultation rooms. All units have the same functionality so there is no "master unit" at the front desk and all units can send and receive messages. When light buttons representing a message are lit on one unit, all the other units in the system light up the same way. The user labels each button to fit their particular office by utilizing a set of adhesive labels provided with each unit. Pressing any of the buttons one time will produce steady light, while pressing twice will result in a blinking light. This increases the number of possible combinations using the fifteen button format. A chime is sent with each message as an audible signal to the users. There is a volume control on each unit so the chime can be set at a level appropriate for each location within the office. The front of each unit has a sealed membrane surface so it is easy to clean for infection control purposes. A handheld infrared remote control is available allowing all system functions to be operated from up to 35 feet away. This helps with placement of the units because the focus can be on where they can be easily seen and not where they can be easily touched. For offices that need room or chair sequencing in an open bay, the system has a sequencing function that indicates which room or chair to go to next at the press of a button.
In most practices, installation is as easy as plugging each unit into an electrical outlet. A six-foot power cord allows the unit to be placed where it can be easily used and still reach the nearest outlet. In some cases the units need to be hardwired to achieve optimal performance. Line noise interference and unusual wiring in an office are the main factors that necessitate hardwiring. This is done using two pair telephone wire with RJ11 plugs connected in series. There is a switch on the back of each unit to convert the signal from plug-in to hardwired. With the LCS4000 your office will be quieter, less stressful, and more professional because the repetitive communications can be handled by pressing a button or two. The communications will be more confidential and less obtrusive to patient interaction because only you and your staff will know what the light buttons mean. Time spent running around the office to relay messages can be devoted to additional patient care. In short, utilizing a light signaling system will streamline your office communications and have a positive effect on your bottom line. | | The handheld infrared remote control can operate the LCS4000 from up to 35 feet away |
