The Den-Mat® Goal—A Dental Practice Made Perfect

The future of dentistry will be all about comfort, esthetics and efficiency. Den-Mat® Corporation, also the maker of Rembrandt® Oral Care Products, believes that the future is now. This California-based company is committed to simplifying the way dentists practice. By developing products that produce a better, faster and more comfortable experience for the patient, anxiety and discomfort associated with many dental procedures are eliminated. The patient is happier, so dentists’ profits increase, making for happier dentists. That is the simple, yet formidable Den-Mat goal. Den-Mat’s founder and president, Dr. Robert Ibsen, who is still a practicing dentist, has created a successful business based on the “problem-solution” premise. By tuning in to the needs of dentists, the company has developed the most leading edge products and techniques in the industry. These insightful developments address the newest professional requirements, which have increasingly focused on cosmetic dentistry.

Tooth Whitening Pioneer
In 1986, Dr. Ibsen wanted to develop a toothpaste that wouldn’t dull resin restorations. Toothpaste, at that time, relied solely on higher levels of abrasion to remove stains, which resulted in loss of luster to bonded restorations. With the development of Rembrandt Whitening Toothpaste, the cleaning capability was so great that it kept restorations polished, plaque and stain-free in spite of its low abrasion factor. In addition, it was found to whiten teeth by two shades. This patented toothpaste, which virtually established the over-the-counter whitening toothpaste market, has been proven in numerous clinical studies to remove stain and prevent plaque and stain from re-forming. In 2001, the toothpaste received the ADA Seal of Acceptance.

“Since 1974, Den-Mat has consistently developed products that allow the dentist to preserve, restore and enhance teeth without the extensive cutting, drilling and tooth removal that have characterized dentistry in the past,” states Dr. Ibsen. “Now, Den-Mat offers the only one-hour bleaching system that is completely comfortable, provides beautifully-uniformed results, and prevents bleaching relapse.”

The REMBRANDT® One-Hour Whitening Program
The newest Den-Mat breakthrough is the Rembrandt One-Hour Whitening Program, which allows dentists to dramatically whiten teeth an average of 10 shades in less than an hour. Using the Rembrandt Sapphire™ Xenon curing light, a Rembrandt Whitening Program dentist can complete an arch in twenty minutes, with no discomfort to the patient. By focusing on one tooth at a time, the whitening procedure results in a uniform look that is unparalleled. In addition, a Rembrandt Whitening Center dentist provides patients with formulas that prevent bleaching relapse.

“As soon as I got the Sapphire Light, I tossed my old one to the side,” states Jerry Yang, DDS, of Fremont, California. “I’ve tried out the competition, but I am convinced that the Sapphire is the best.” “This efficiency is greatly appreciated by my patients during their shortened visits,” states K. Michael Rhyne, DDS, of Charlotte, North Carolina about Rembrandt bleaching. “There is less ‘open wide’ time.”

CERINATE® Porcelain Laminate Veneers
The Rembrandt One-Hour Whitening Program has evolved from a long line of super-efficient foundation-building Den-Mat materials. In 1982, Den-Mat introduced the revolutionary Rembrandt® Shade Modification Kit to provide a simple solution for treating discolored teeth. Dentists had never before possessed the ability to correct mismatched filling materials. Two years later, Den-Mat introduced ultra-thin, naturally beautiful-looking Cerinate® Porcelain Laminate Veneers. Because of the strength of this porcelain, less drilling or removal of tooth structure is required. Today, Cerinate Veneers are the cornerstones of long-lasting esthetic restorations supported by the longest clinical studies in existence for porcelain veneers indicating no adhesion failures or color changes after 12 to 15 years.

The newest, most complete Cerinate Laminate System, made up of Cerinate porcelain, Ultrabond® and Tenure®, also has fifteen years of continued research behind it that demonstrates virtually no pop-offs and minimal color change.

“Cerinate Porcelain Laminates have taken my office by storm,” states Saleh Kholaki, DDS, of Duarte, CA. “They are unbreakable.”

REMBRANDT LIGHTEN® Bleaching Gel
The first ADA Seal was awarded to Rembrandt Lighten® Bleaching Gel, the premier dentist-dispensed bleaching system and the first at-home bleaching product of its kind to carry the ADA Seal of Acceptance. In order to eliminate the discomfort some patients experience during bleaching, Rembrandt XTRA-Comfort™ was subsequently developed as the first de-sensitizing dentist-dispensed bleaching system, delivering pain-free, safe and effective mouthguard whitening. The product helps eliminate bleaching sensitivity altogether.

Restorative Materials
Den-Mat currently manufactures a complete line of cosmetic and restorative formulations that have received accolades from leading clinicians as well as over 50 ratings of 4 and 5 stars from The Dental Advisor. The Rembrandt Advanced Restorative System (ARS) was featured in the Journal of the American Dental Association (JADA) as being a line of restorative composites that cure as quick as the curing light can cure them. The System includes Virtuoso™ Packable, Flowable and Sculptable.

Tenure® is the first high-strength dentin bonding agent to provide unsurpassed bonding that doesn’t require a curing light, seals tubules and prevents pulpal sensitivity. Most other uncured resins may penetrate the tubules and cause pulpal necrosis. Tenure A&B is the only dentin bonding system that does not require light curing which results in a well-protected pulp. Many dentists have found they often return to using this superior bonding agent after they have tried other systems. A light-curing version of this material has been licensed to other manufacturers. Geristore®, a unique resin fluoride releasing ionomer, has been shown to salvage older crowns with poor margins and pulp-capping. Dr. Gordon Christensen made an educational tape using Geristore for subgingival restorations because of its superior biocompatibility. A bio-cement (Infinity®) was developed based on Geristore technology. Most recently, Infinity Syringeable was introduced for more efficient delivery. These are just a few examples of the unequalled performance of products that can elevate a dental practice to a higher, more efficient level.

“The Tenure system is simple to use, has high bond strengths, is cost-effective,” states Louis Malcmacher, DDS, of Cleveland, OH. “This translates into better dentistry and happier patients.”Den-Mat maintains a Customer Service operation that is dedicated to ensuring that every dentist is completely satisfied. This mission includes a hotline to Dr. Ibsen’s office, where he personally ensures that all problems are immediately resolved.

“Den-Mat’s goal is 100% satisfaction for patients and consumers,” states Dr. Ibsen. “The company’s entire focus is on providing materials and solutions that are reliable and fool-proof for dentists.”

REMBRANDT® Oral Care Products
Rembrandt Oral Care Products have provided some of the most popular oral care products on the consumer market today. Besides Rembrandt Whitening Toothpaste (in regular, mint, sensitive, natural, canker prevention, and baking soda formulas), other low-abrasion brush-in whitening and bleaching products include Rembrandt Plus Toothpaste and Gel with Peroxide, Rembrandt Intense Stain Removal Toothpaste, Rembrandt Daily Whitening Gel, and Rembrandt Dazzling White® Brush-In Bleaching Kit.

Rembrandt’s breath products are all alcohol-free, including Rembrandt Dazzling Fresh® Mouthwash and Rembrandt Dazzling BreathDrops. The company has performed extensive studies on the efficiency of alcohol-free mouthwashes, unequivocally concluding that these products fight halitosis better than those containing alcohol.

Rembrandt looks at the special issues and desires of patients and consumers. Dr. Ibsen has always been concerned with the effects of age on teeth, so the company developed Rembrandt Age Defying™ Toothpaste and Mouthwash, which contains calcium and fluoride for remineralization. In addition, the Rembrandt Canker Pain Relief Kit, which contains a toothpaste, gel and mouthrinse, has shown to be enormously successful, helping millions of canker sore sufferers. The Kit was voted top product by Dentistry Today, June 2000 issue, and Pharmacy Times, Summer 2000 issue. In addition, the Kit received a 4-star rating from The Dental Advisor, November 2000 issue.

They are encouraged to send in models, photos and x-rays for consultation on all kinds of cases. The company services more than 86,000 dentists nationwide, and its products are available in more than 68 foreign countries. Den-Mat not only provides oral care professionals with superior products, but informative materials for patients as well.

“With the help of Rembrandt marketing materials, I gain 40 new patients every month,” states Young An, DDS, of Van Nuys, CA. “The patient education brochures tell my patients everything they need to know about the pain-free procedures available to them.”

Den-Mat routinely provides continuing education programs and seminars with leading clinicians for dental societies and schools worldwide. “By implementing what I learned from the course, I was able to increase my profit by 30%,” states Roland Taylor, DDS, of Euless, TX. “It improved the quality of my practice.”

Den-Mat also helps by supporting the Children’s Dental Center, St. Raphael’s Inner City Parish in South Central Los Angeles and other organizations through donated materials used in US and foreign dental missions. “By consistently donating a generous amount of product, Den-Mat has helped the parish move towards self-help,” states Father Tracy O’Sullivan of St. Raphael’s Parish. “Parish members and families sell the product in the community to fund various areas of the parish and school, ultimately taking responsibility and pride in the vast improvements that have been made. Den-Mat has been an incredible blessing.”

With the Rembrandt Smile Program and more revolutionary developments arriving at a dizzying pace, Den-Mat will continue to try and make itself the definitive resource for leading-edge dentistry. The past, present and future of the industry revolves around the patient and Den-Mat’s goal is to make that patient happy through constant and thorough support for dentists.

“If dentists are having a problem in their practice, we want them to turn to Den-Mat for the solution,” states Dr. Ibsen. “If our company isn’t the first one to come to their mind when they are trying to better serve their patients, then we’re not doing our job. Den-Mat was established as the dentist’s Number One ally. I’m a dentist, so that’s where my heart is.”

Den-Mat has grown to over 500 employees, housed in 2 buildings totaling 250,000 square feet. Headquarters are located at 2727 Skyway Drive, Santa Maria, CA, 93456 (800) 433-6628 or www.denmat.com
