WHY DO MOST WEB PAGES GET ZERO GOOGLE TRAFFIC?

Even the best-designed website will only help a company if it brings in visitors who become customers (in our case, patients for a dental practice). Google is the big dog when it comes to website traffic. Web pages aren’t as successful if they don’t appear on the first page of a Google search! It is astounding to think that approximately 90% of web pages do not get much Google traffic and aren’t getting on the first search page.

Nevertheless, this can be turned around with the right strategies.

Let's dive into why.

Why do most dental office web pages get very little free traffic, such as Search Engine Optimization (SEO) or other kinds of organic traffic from Google?

Google makes most of its money from Google Ads. I’m talking crazy money, like more money than many countries' gross domestic product (GDP).  This means they are more successful than many of the world nations, and we are only talking about some of the Google operations, only about Google Ads.

The Free Traffic Club

So essentially, most business owners, including dental practices, give Google billions via Ads. For dentists, that’s still cheaper than offering tens of billions to PPO plans, but it’s expensive when considered the more affordable alternative. The critical point is how do we become the five percent of businesses that attract 95 percent of the free traffic?

How do we get our websites to become the 5 percent of web pages managed to get 95 percent of the free Google traffic? How does a dental practice get into that exclusive party?

Both Google founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, were Ph.D. students from Stanford. They both had academic backgrounds and applied everything in universities to their project. For instance, if you want to get into the best dental school in the country, you must be excellent at everything you do and get ‘A’s for everything – exams, interviews, etc. To become a dentist, you must be among your class's top students. The same theory applies at Google: You must score ‘A’s in six areas to qualify for that five percent. These are

  1. NAP – Name, Address, Phone number consistency
  2.
  3. EAT – Expertise, Authority, Trust
  4.
  5. Quality backlinks – How many web pages on your site have quality links valued by Google, and are those numbers growing?
  6.
  7.

Original content – Does it have content that Google might consider essential to send more traffic to?

  8.
  9. Reviews – Do you get ten or more reviews that read like love letters every month, where people specifically refer to your services?
  10.
  11.

A high value in Google Lighthouse Score

You will enter the exclusive five percent club if you earn an A in all these points. However, you will have to work hard to get there. Most businesses, including dental practices, look at websites they admire and try to model theirs on that, but it would only be helpful if they considered the elements that Google looks at. It’s like copying an exam from someone who will get an F.

You could have the perfect website, but when a patient types their search terms, and your website doesn’t appear on the first page, it’s useless.  I am a dentist who knows how to do dentistry.  I don’t have the expertise or the time to monitor my Google rankings.  I have a professional marketing team do it for me.  And we don’t spend money on Google Ads.

As a dental practice owner, it is important not just to throw money at the situation and expect a return on investment.  We need to get smart and strategic and understand the dental buyers and how they think.  Long story short.  You need to get on the top page of Google and do it with organic free SEO.   Don’t get stuck at the bottom of Google with little to no traffic.

Get organized and join the exclusive non-paid ad party.

Disclaimer:  Marketing is crucial for attracting and retaining patients; I don’t pretend to be an expert in this part of my dental practice.  I have partnered with an expert marketing group, www.Ekwa.com, to handle this. A dedicated team managing your marketing efforts can be a valuable asset to your business. If you have any specific questions or need advice related to marketing, feel free to ask.
