Bulk-fill materials by Dentaltown staff

The category of filling materials commonly referred to as “bulk fill” has many varieties, but most can be divided into one of two major groups: light-cured and dual-cured.

The depth of cure for light-cured materials can vary from product to product, so it’s imperative to respect the limitations of each. With that in mind, though, most such materials operate at a depth of cure that will satisfy a single increment of material in an average prep. Dual-cured materials offer the promise of cured material at any depth, but there can be some aesthetic and strength trade-offs that should be considered.

This month we gathered a summary of the most often-mentioned materials in this rapidly growing category.
