Synopsis:

This course is meant to prepare the solo practitioner to take back control of insurance participation/contracting by understanding which companies may be negotiable, which ones are not and how to tailor negotiations to best fit your specific practice. We explain how individual negotiations can be just as good, if not better, than corporate negotiations and how to look beyond direct contracting to shared network agreements to capitalize on the highest paying options. Learn why it’s important to have your full/cash fees set appropriately, how to focus negotiations on the top codes in your practice, how shared network agreements have changed the game and how to work them to your advantage instead of against you.

We encourage you to remain optimistic about the power of the solo practice and to not buy into the idea that corporations are all getting better deals than the solo practice. Learn how to continue to position yourself for strong fee schedules focused on the most relevant codes for you personally. Learn how to analyze hard numbers comparing what the true cost is with your participation which allows you to add or drop plans based on real numbers relevant to your bottom line. There is no right or wrong amount of insurance participation, it’s finding what’s best for you and creating a plan that allows you to practice dentistry with the business model most likely to make dentistry enjoyable.

Educational Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:
  • Understand the importance of having appropriately set, well balance UCR fees and how they can impact negotiations
  • How to identify your practice's top codes to create a strategy for higher fee schedule negotiations
  • Know how often insurance companies typically negotiate, which ones are usually non-negotiable and how to compare the side by side in spreadsheet format
  • Clear understanding of what a third party administrator is and how they work, especially in comparison to direct contracts
  • How to handle Opt Outs to close down shared network agreements when it is most beneficial to the doctor.

Informative presentation. Thank you for extending this education. I see that the presentation was from November 2015. Will you be or have you created a year follow-up to tie on to this presentation? As you know, insurances and 3rd party administrators/consolidators/shared networks are changing daily and constantly continues to confuse dental practices and their insurance operations. In addition, our industry is waiting on the response to possible acceptance of mergers between Aetna and Humana and Cigna and Anthem. Depending on the decision pushed forth, we are talking a whole other shift in insurances within practices. Looking forward to your response. Diana Thompson Dental Performance Institute

As someone who has wrestled with PPO's on behalf of Dentists for many years I am delighted to see the quality of this presentation. She is helping level the playing field for Dentists dealing with this often confusing and costly issue. I don't think anyone in the country has a better handle on third party PPO networks. Bill Rossi

The app was messing up.. Makes it hard to select 5 stars. Good course. Question 2 in the exam has the wrong answer that you have to select to get a passing grade.
