I just received a denial from Centene Heath Plans under Medicare. I appealed an inital ruling to cover prevident for a disabled patient who has a high caries rate. She can not use her arms and relys on staff to brush her teeth. I can scan and post the actual denial but here is the quote

Our office does both the foam and varnish fluoride but we have had issues lately with insurance changes in coverage. Delta WI covers varnish under age 6 but not the foam. Anthem covers foam but not varnish no matter the age. Every insurance is starting to get more detailed on not only

you want to do fluoride? then they should be retrained. They need to understand why they are recommending it and actually say, I recommend bla bla bla. I don't let insurance dictate what I think it best for the patient It is a great preventive treatment IMO but certainly up to the patient to pay

How address fluoride varnish with adult patients? 1 apply at no charge 2 charge a fee of $XX 3 only apply if covered by insurance If you are charging them a fee (not covered by insurance)- please share a comment or two about how this happens. Does hygienist present on the spot? Each PPO will have

The insurance rules for varnish are ever changing. Age limitations and frequency allowances seem to change yearly. My FD seems to be writing off way too many of these fees for fluoride varnish. Some insurances pay for twice per year, and then next year, it is only 1x per year. I suggested just

was interested and I talked her out of it. Insurance has too much control of the dental field now and dentists gripe about it but I yet fail to see anything do anything about it. I'm about to retuire and AM !)))% GLAD to get out of the profession mainly because of the insurance. I am getting less

though they all believed it to be quite beneficial. It turned out that the cost, if not covered by insurance, was The main impediment to the hygienists. So we decided to run a special on Adult Fluoride and drop the fee from $40 to $20. All of a sudden, the hygienists went nuts, offering Fl to almost

Recently, we started charging a fee for a flouride rinse at the end of each prophy appointment. What was happening was some insurances were reimbursing for it and others not. I feel a little guilty that I am 'nickle and diming the patient's. We recommend it, but give them the choice. We no longer

We have been trying to simplify the conversation about Fl varnish application for patients.. Some want it some don't, we apply to kids mostly since insurance covers it. My opinion is it should be offered to adults as well with caries risk. But the discussion with each and every patient about why

the same thing in the office I currently associate. It seems like its an insurance driven decision (by the office) because many insurances stop covering Flouride for adults after age 18 (at least that is how it is in Canada). But if I was a non-dental individual and someone explained the benefits, I

exactly what I say, deep down, I know she's not on board and we just don't have the same vision. Now.... I'm just curious of what others are doing. Do you all recommend fluoride on patients... even dare i say, low risk caries patients? Am I crazy to push fluoride. If the insurance covers it at 100

fee.ADA Codes are for insurance reimbursement, and they will never pay for those. Just make your own, even better to not do a Dxxxx code so it never gets taken over by a future ADA code. interesting. at that point you will have to change anyway

with a logical answer. Sure, fine....see you next time.I follow the Mauty approach of nodding and moving on. I'm curious how others deal with Fl denial when it's a financial issue, ins doesn't cover or cash patient. How do you deal with the patient who doesn't think it's worth the $$ for an inoffice

This happens when patients don't see the value of the procedure. Patients should also be aware that insurance seldom covers 100% of everything in a current fee guide, it assists with the cost. They need to know that the bill is their responsibility. We also never accepted assignment, this fraught

I am not even saying it should be offered to everyone. The benefits may be minimal for patients with zero lifetime

I have read some of the past posts on the use of fluoride gels, rinses, and varnishes and I am still confused. We currently offer a Fl rinse and charge about $25 for it. Most insurances cover it. I hear the rinse is almost as effective as the gel and trays but the rinse is a lot less messy
