Sending AR to collections will be more challenging . Obviously collect up front. But for the times insurance doesn't pay as expected and the pt owes, you still have the small claims option which is probably much more effective. Any time ive used collections it was worthless. Dental debt is usually pretty small and if the pt doesnt want to pay a small amount then they probably dont care about credit. Medical debt is a whole different beast.
