With the increasing demand for dental implant treatments among today’s patients, The American College of Prosthodontists (ACP) is offering a new program at its’ 2002 Annual Session in Orlando for dental professionals who are interested in learning how to surgically place dental implants. As part of the ACP Annual Session, November 6–9, 2002 at the Renaissance Orlando Resort in Orlando, Florida, the ACP has assembled a group of leading companies in the dental implant industry to participate in a new Implant Surgical Training Course to provide attendees with the introductory skills needed for implant surgery. Implant systems that will be reviewed include: Astra Tech, Friadent, Nobel Biocare, Steri-Oss, Straumann or Sulzer Dental, and may address the following topics: patient selection and assessment, review of intraoral anatomy, assessment of the surgical site for implant placement, flap designs for anterior and posterior placement and single and multiple implant placement, suture techniques, post-surgical care and pharmacotherapy.
Also new to this year’s meeting will be special program targeted to new prosthodontists just starting to practice. Whether you are a current student, recent graduate or an established professional looking to start a private practice, this half-day program is designed to help identify some of the common concerns facing the new prosthodontist. Presentations will cover the areas of practice management and marketing, public speaking and treatment plan presentation skills, as well as technology applications in the private practice. This “New Prosthodontist Program” will be followed by a reception for attendees, which will offer an excellent opportunity for meeting skilled and highly motivated new prosthodontists.
The ACP Annual Session is designed to expand the professional knowledge and expertise in clinical prosthodontics and practice management. The four-day event offers a balanced mix of scientific and clinically-oriented programs and educational sessions to provide a better understanding of the directions, techniques and materials that will drive the specialty of prosthodontics during the next century. Other highlights at the ACP Annual Session include:
Scientific Sessions focusing on the outcomes of therapy in Prosthodontics, Implant  Prosthodontics and Surgical Therapy, Esthetics, Occlusion Management, Periodontal  and Endodontic Therapy. Limited Attendance Lectures covering topics such as electronic pantography and  spectrophotometric color matching. Private Practice Seminar focusing on the Prosthodontist’s role in cosmetic and/or  esthetic dentistry. Table Clinics providing short presentations on a research project, clinical outcome,  laboratory technique, etc. by graduate students or clinicians. The ACP is an ADA CERP recognized provider of continuing education credit; approximately 50 credits can be earned at the 2002 Annual Session.
