Many business owners think that they must do everything themselves, or that no one can do the job as well as they can. As a result of this narrow thinking, these business owners are very limited in the amount of success that they can untimately achieve.

In fact, the only tasks that you should be focusing on are the ones which can not be eliminated, automated, or delegated. This means taking a hard look at your default diary and daily tasks. Once this exercise is done, you will find that there are many things that you are doing that provide no real value to you, your family, or your business.

These unnecessary tasks should be eliminated immediately. If these tasks need to be done, ask if you have to be the one doing them.

Now with the use of technology, you are able to free up a significant amount of time by automating tasks. In my dental practice, for example, we have created a system of automating appointment reminders.  Each appointment made has a color next to it which indicates the status of the appointment. Cleanings which are pre-booked 6 months out are marked red when the appointment is made. We have a computer software which sends an email one week before a pre-booked appointment to reconfirm that they intend to keep their appointment.  All patients also receive a confirmation email 2 days prior to their appointment.  Once appointments are confirmed through a smartphone or pc, the color changes to orange.

This systems adds to the efficiency and productivity of our patient concierges as we do not have to make physical calls to remind them.  Also, as a result of this system, patients rarely miss or break their appointments.

The final, and most important point, is that you should only focus on things that can not be delegated.  In fact, you should be thinking of ways that everything should be delegated.  This allows you to do what you really enjoy and allows you to have a more productive and meaningful life.
