Albensi Dental Laboratories Turns Gymnasium into a State-of-the-Art Digital Dental Laboratory

Four years in the making and celebrating 35 years within the dental laboratory industry, Don and Laura Albensi knew that half of the 60,000 sq. foot building would be an ideal location for the reinvention and facelift of their unique, full-service, digital dental laboratory.  The building offered 30,000 sq. feet of blank space for producing a workflow that lends itself for various lab functions, artistry, creativity, and ample room for future growth.  Walking through the laboratory truly emphasizes the thought and growth potential within the space.  

Positioning of the Model Department, Removables, CAD/CAM, Milling, Printing, Post Processing, Ceramists, Stain and Glaze, Billing, and Quality Control was essential to creating a seamless workflow that increases accuracy, quality, and productivity.  Surrounding the production workflow are strategically located administrative offices for the Executive Team, Finance, Customer Care, Marketing, and Sales divisions.

Although the space was ideal, the building was a significant investment and does encompass an additional 30,000 sq. feet that is being used as a restaurant and banquet facility.  With the ability to use the banquet facility for events and team-building activities, Albensi Dental Laboratories has recently announced their PACE approval and commitment to providing continuous education programs starting in the fall of 2014.

During the construction process, the Executive Team sought input from each department manager regarding their needs for a productive work area.  This sharing of information spawned several design changes; however, all input lent itself to a greater aesthetic design and ergonomics for all technicians and administrative staff.  With close to 100 employees, it was imperative that the workflow, ergonomics, and design create a space for increased pride in the organization and company outlook.  The work environment not only offers a seamless workflow but a nice lunchroom, workout facility, ample parking, and access to a restaurant directly next door.

In May 2014, the renovation project was complete and the laboratory moved into its new work                environment.  With the accommodation of the connected banquet facility, within 5 days of moving the final piece of equipment, Albensi Dental Laboratories hosted 75 doctors, dental assistants, and dental hygienists for a co-partnered event with 3M ESPE.   “This is a wonderful and exciting way to celebrate our 35th Anniversary.” - Don Albensi, CDT/Owner.
