AAE Foundation and DENTSPLY Award Grant to West Virginia University
A $50,000 research innovation award in endodontics has been awarded to the West Virginia University School of Dentistry. The American Association of Endodontists (AAE) Foundation/DENTSPLY Innovation in Research Grant will equip a dedicated endodontics research laboratory that will be used by faculty and students to prepare experimental samples and specimens. The 4,000-square-foot lab was developed in collaboration with the West Virginia Clinical and Translational Science Institute.

David Funderburk, DDS, MS, an AAE Foundation trustee and West Virginia School of Dentistry alumnus, said WVU has a tremendous track record of advancing the endodontic specialty.

The grant is given annually to one or more universities that are chosen based on their achievements in research or their future goals for developing a research initiative at their institution. The intent is to highlight and promote excellence in endodontics research.

The AAE Foundation seeks to improve oral health by securing contributions, shepherding resources and sharing grant funds that support research, generate new knowledge and enhance endodontic education.

Ohlendorf Launches Pediatric Dental Appliance Division
At the upcoming AAPD Annual Meeting in May, longtime dental appliance maker Ohlendorf Appliance Laboratory will introduce a new division focusing on the pediatrics market.

While the company has been fabricating pediatric appliances for several decades, the new division signifies a commitment to broadening Ohlendorf's reach to dentists who are dedicated to the care of young patients. Ohlendorf offers a complete line of individually fabricated pediatric appliances to help with space maintenance, habit correction, crossbite, arch development and crowding. The company also makes custom sports mouth guards.

To help dentists better understand each appliance, the company has created a complete video library with tutorials on dental appliances, terminology, how the different types work to solve specific oral issues, and how to choose the best solution for a particular case.
