Breakout Session Speakers
|
"Understanding the Yes and No in Treatment Acceptance"
- Dr. Bruce Baird
It's critical for dentists to learn to help patients say yes to treatment. It's equally important to understand why
they say no and to have an appropriate POF (payment options form) to help them say yes. As dentists, we must
understand the proper verbal skills to seamlessly connect with our patients. By learning these verbal skills, you're
able to gain the patient's blessing to discuss any and all problems in their mouth. It's very important to understand
why patients say yes, but also why they say no.

"The Keys to Successful, Predictable, and Efficient Direct Composite Restorations"
-Dr. Nicholas R. Conte, Jr.
Direct composite restorations are among the most frequently performed restorative
procedures, yet dentists often struggle with placement techniques, options for consistently
generating ideal inter-proximal contact and post-operative sensitivity. There are several key
elements that will determine the success of direct aesthetic restorations, including tooth
preparation, material choice, placement technique and curing method. This presentation will
discuss how each element will play a critical role in the professional's decision-making process when
determining which materials, systems and techniques are best to utilize when doing
direct composite restorations. This program will review aesthetic principles, modern
preparation design and when and where to use "total-etch" and "self-etch" adhesive systems.
Additional topics will include proper composite selection and placement techniques,
anatomical contouring and finishing and polishing, all of which are essential clinical components to
achieving long-lasting aesthetic restorations.

"Adopting Tech and Interfacing: Incorporating Modern Tools in Everyday Practice while Optimizing

With the ever-growing success of digital technologies (CAD/CAM, digital impressions, CBCT), the
question of "How much do I want to do in the practice?" is becoming more difficult. This can place strain not
only on the practitioner, but also on staff and specialists collaborating on cases. This overview of possibilities and
cooperative politics gives some insight into smooth interfacing, with a focus on aesthetic orthodontic treatment.

|
"Digitally Enhanced Implant Dentistry"
-Dr. David Guichet
Traditional methods of creating restorations have been replaced by digital processes and are forever changed.
The multiple technologies of 3D CBCT imaging, intraoral scanning, laboratory scanning, 3D digital restorative
design and CAD/CAM production have contributed to this trend. Simultaneously, restorative materials have been
introduced that have improved strength and esthetic qualities. Integration of these capabilities create opportunities
for enhanced restorative performance, decreased costs, and practice efficiency.
This presentation will highlight a practice-based model centered on digitally enhanced treatment. Many
elements of the digital work ow (digital treatment planning using merged datasets, linked digital work flows,
guided implant surgery, CAD/CAM abutment and restorative design), will be presented in the context of new
possibilities for efficient and predictable esthetic restorative outcomes. Additionally, expanded treatment options
will be presented utilizing new evolutionary implant system designs. The goal of treatment success is based upon
the thoughtful application of these technologies to patient's specific needs.

"Cone Beam Imaging is Great, But What Am I Looking at!?"
-Dr. Dale A. Miles
As dentists we use imaging every day in our office to help refine our clinical treatment decisions. Now
there's an amazing, low-cost, effective CT modality for dentistry. But do you understand it? This session will
build your confidence for reviewing your cone beam data sets. Dr. Miles presents principles and applications
of dentistry's newest and most-advanced imaging technology-cone beam. He reviews CBCT images like
you've never seen before. Come see what you may have been missing.
"Risky Business: Dental X-rays-Are they Safe? Are They Necessary?"
Dentists and their staff members have many patients and parents of children who think that dental X-rays
are dangerous. X-rays can be. But modern dental offices use techniques to minimize the risk and ensure the
safety of your examination. The ADA recently released updated guidelines in the patient selection for X-rays
regarding limiting radiation exposure. This program will identify types of X-ray exams and discuss their risk
in comparison to daily activities and every-day risks we take in our lives-information you and your staff can
present to patients to ease their fears. Dr. Miles will also present the newest technology to reduce X-ray doses
simply and effectively. The talk is fun, informative and designed to explain in understandable terms the real
risk of dental X-ray examinations.

"Measuring the Right Stuff: KBIs and KPIs for Team and Practice Success"
Dr. Mark T. Murphy
It is important to design and track key performance indicators (KPIs) that tell us how well we are doing.
We all need to know where we have been and how we have done, and to use those KPIs to help trim the
practice sails so we move smoothly toward our vision and success. The missing link is often "What do we
do?" to change those results. Simply knowing more about the numbers will not magically change them. We
must consider what key behaviors indicate that we are on track to our goals and objectives. By designing and
tracking the key behavioral indicators (KBIs) that are appropriate for your practice, you can have better work
and life balance and accountability, less stress and much more success in achieving your vision. Dr. Murphy
will help you determine and measure the right things that produce the results your practice needs to succeed.
|
|
"Simplifying Full-Mouth Implant Reconstructions"
Dr. Ara Nazarian
According to the literature, the increased need and use of implant-related treatments result from the
combined effect of several factors, including:
- Aging population and tooth loss related to age
- Consequences of fixed prostheses failure
- Anatomical consequences of edentulism
- Poor performance of removable prostheses
- Psychological aspects of tooth loss and desires of aging baby boomers
Dental providers can meet this need effectively and efficiently if they have a systematic approach when
treating these patients. Dr. Nazarian highlights the techniques and materials used when delivering full-mouth
implant reconstructions, from A-Z.

dentistry impacted by 3D imaging, integration
of cone beam imaging and CAD/CAM and the
future applications of 3D imaging. Changes in
practice management, clinical cases and patient
experience will also be discussed.

"Oral Cancer: Everything the Dental Professional Needs to Know"
Dr. Fayette Williams
Oral-cancer patients face significant challenges during treatment and for the rest of their lives. Although
dental professionals encounter these patients commonly, many are unsure of their role in the diagnosis and
management of oral cancer and its related treatment. While early detection is most easily performed in the
general dentist's office, much of the U.S. population unfortunately does not seek routine dental care. This
course is designed to educate the dental practitioner on the various etiological factors of oral cancer, the
possible role of commercially available adjunctive aids in detection, and the dental management of common
oral side effects of oral cancer treatment.
