I'll be starting residency in June and moonlighting is strictly prohibited. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to generate supplemental income using the knowledge and skills I've developed during dental school? Reviewing treatments for insurance companies? Consulting? Any other suggestions? I

will dominate in the near future. Some insurance companies are already buying up private practice groups - which I can see being the future. Optum bought out alot of medical clinics in our area. Just another nail in the coffin for dentistry. FQHC used to provide a solid 8-5 gig with good benefits

both specialties are getting saturated. Some of this depends moreso on where you are willing to go to practice. Ortho seems to be affected by economy more, but the potential income is much higher for it as well.. still loving peds, more insurance based but at least most kids have some form of...

I understand that procedure fees, insurance reimbursement, etc are largely dependant on the geographical area and patient demographic. However, as a resident, it would be nice to attempt to calculate my production throughout the year - even if only an estimate based upon fees and data averages

their work as long as their insurance pays for it and it's a cheaper price to them, i.e. A specialist doing an implant and graft versus a general dentist. They want all the savings they can get to buy the new $1000 iPhone. Seems like the benefits of joining Perio programs are to get more hands

to corporate jobs, just be careful is all I am saying. 2 examples: 1. I did a GPR, and solely because of it I landed an associates position in a fee for service office which I have now come to be a partner/owner. I still do not participate with any insurance plans. I do surgical exts, molar endo

. AEGDs tend to pay less IME than GPRs. I stand corrected I guess. I never looked into them because I was ready to get to work. Do corporate offices give better contracts to GPR trained dentist? Do insurance companies reimburse more for a crown to GPR trained dentist? Do banks give better rates or more

He made 40k off this in Jan -- I know b/c I saw the ledger. I sat next to him drinking beers and said that I wanna see it in action

Endo and performing complex treatment planning. They should have good faculty to student ratios with multiple specialists on staff. Make sure that they also pay at least 50k with health insurance. There are a lot of these GPRS/AEGDs which are pretty much a waste of your time. I know someone

it's like your in my brain. I literally could get 90% of my practice into an extremely healthy and maintainable dentition ( we all could). Unfortunately it would be very expensive, and the reality is, same in medicine, if insurance isn't covering it it's a hard sell. I honestly wonder if just some

on Insurance! You may want to consider doing both Perio and Prosthodontics. There is one near me with both specialties and he is very busy. Seems to me to be the best of both worlds. Work as a GP for a few years . First of all you will pay your students loans , and secondly you will have a good feel of want

I'm a recent grad finding general dentistry to be quite the grind. I don't like dealing with the public who expect general dentistry to cheap and fast (e.g. I just want the cleaning my insurance covers, not that rip off deep cleaning or I don't think I need a root canal on this tooth, it doesn't

called a GP. Yes your skills will be way better than other GPs but what about your ROI? Are you going to do big cases day in and day out? How about insurance reimbursement as a GP rather than specialist? Now if you are planning to practice as a specialist in the country you plan to study at that might be a different maybe you can do well.

. I'm taking my chances without.I would only do an AEGD/GPR that paid (hint that's exactly what I did). Some are very good - I went to UConn - took call every 20th day, made $48K that year, was classified as a state employee with killer health insurance and a 401K that you put in 3% and they match 5
