Trade Winds Dental, PA has been recognized by the Eco-Dentistry Association (EDA) for their green commitment. Trade Winds Dental is the first office in Georgetown and Williamson County and one of four dental offices in Texas to achieve GreenDOC Gold certification.

Trade Winds Dental is owned by David R. Hennington, DDS, who has been practicing in Georgetown since 1991.

“We know that our environmental problems are serious and that each of us needs to do what we can to be part of the solution,” said Dr. Hennington. “Our goal is to provide our patients with the highest quality of dental care while incorporating the highest standards of planetary care.”

The EDA’s GreenDOC program specifies over 180 eco-friendly initiatives that dental offices can implement, including new processes and community outreach methods. Only dental offices meeting the associations’ highest standards of pollution prevention, waste reduction, water and energy conservation and wellness-based practices qualify. Practices are awarded based off a submission, earning Bronze, Silver or Gold certifications.

Dr. Hennington and his team have implemented a wide range of EDA initiatives, as well as innovative concepts unique to their office and community.

The practice uses digital imaging and patient charting, which reduces landfill waste and patient radiation exposure by as much as 90 percent. They have also installed an amalgam separator, which captures mercury-containing material before it enters local water supplies. In addition, Trade Winds Dental uses energy efficient lighting, drought-resistant landscaping and other techniques to help protect our environment.

“We applaud the efforts of Dr. Hennington and his team. They are on the cutting edge of dentistry’s green future,” remarked Dr. Fred Pockrass, co-founder of the Eco-Dentistry Association. “It is our vision that one day all dentistry will be practiced in such an earth and patient-friendly manner.”
