Dr. Peirre Mourad Joins Board of S-Ray Incorporated

Posted: June 27, 2012

S-Ray Incorporated, a leader in digital dentistry developing a unique ultrasound-based imaging system, is proud to announce the addition of Dr. Pierre D. Mourad to their Advisory Board.

Dr. Mourad will focus on the commercialization of S-Ray Inc.’s unique ultrasound imaging technology as a dental device. The initial use of this technology, Ultrasound Computed Tomography (UCT), will be a digital impression system to be released on a limited basis to a group of dental professional leaders in July, 2013.  Additional features that will be provided by software upgrades to the device include precise digital measurement of the area between the tooth and gum.

Steve Baird, CEO of S-Ray said “Dr. Mourad has experience commercializing ultrasound devices, including in the dental space, as manifest by the Ultreo toothbrush.  There he delivered value on both the scientific and business sides of the venture, multi-valued contributions we expect he will bring to the present project”.  He added “While our initial product features will be imaging to enable real time diagnostic information to dental professionals, we anticipate that ultrasound will eventually have therapeutic aspects. Dr. Mourad has a penchant for helping to develop and test novel diagnostics that impact therapeutic decisions, a value he brings to S-Ray.  For example, with PhysioSonics Incorporated, a Redmond, Washington - based company, he has helped develop an automatic transcranial Doppler system for the ready detection of errant blood flow and emboli in the brain as well as TAP, an image-guided Transcutaneous Acoustic Palpitation device, useful for localizing deep, painful tissue pathology. He is currently leading human studies of these devices.”

Dr. Mourad is a Principal Physicist within the Center for Industrial and Medical Ultrasound at the Applied Physics Laboratory, which is part of the University of Washington. He also holds an Associate Professorship in the Department of Neurological Surgery, as well as an Adjunct Associate Professorship in each of the Departments of Bioengineering and Pediatric Dentistry.  S-Ray has already established a collaborative research partnership with the University of Washington and works via the Center for Industrial and Medical Ultrasound at the University.
