Space Maintainers Laboratories establishes group to promote appliance therapy education and services to customers
Posted: August 27, 2002
Space Maintainers Laboratories, the nation’s leading provider of dental appliance products and services, announced today it will begin operating under the newly formed Appliance Therapy Group designation. The change is designed to better market the 40-year-old company’s full line of products and services as well as promote the benefits of appliance therapy to consumers.

Appliance therapy is a growing alternative to traditional orthodontic procedures that enables dental practitioners to expand their practices by incorporating the use of removable appliances developed to prevent problems that previously resulted in the need for invasive orthodontic measures. Appliance therapy also offers consumers a variety of new treatment options to prevent snoring and sleep apnea, whiten and straighten teeth, even create custom-fitted mouthguards. Additionally, appliance therapy is increasingly being used in pediatric dentistry to straighten teeth and create space effectively eliminating the need for braces when adult teeth come in.

“We are dedicated to improving dental health through appliance therapy,” said Dr. Rob Veis, Chief Executive Officer of the Appliance Therapy Group. “The formation of the Appliance Therapy Group will enable us to provide dentists with the tools and education they need to solve complex dental challenges. Just as important, it will allow us to keep consumers up to date on the many advances in technology that are transforming the dental industry while providing alternative solutions for their dental care.”

The Appliance Therapy Group consists of five divisions, many of which are already familiar to the thousands of dental practitioners around the world who have been utilizing the company’s appliance products and educational services for years. The divisions include: Space Maintainers Laboratories (appliance construction); Success Essentials (ortho/pedo products); The Second Opinion (diagnostic services); SMILE Foundation (educational services); and ATG Dental Practitioner Registry (appliance therapy provider listings).

About The Appliance Therapy Group
The Appliance Therapy Group works with dentists to expand their patient services through the use of dental appliances. The group was formed by Space Maintainers Laboratories, the largest appliance laboratory in the United States and a leader in the design and manufacture of dental appliances for more than 40 years. Today, dental appliances are experiencing dramatic growth as alternative treatments, both preventative and cosmetic, for procedures such as adult tooth movement, bleaching, interceptive orthodontics and for the treatment of sleep apnea. As a result, dentists are realizing a hidden value in their practice. The Appliance Therapy Group is comprised of five divisions that provide everything dental practitioners need to grow their practice, from diagnosis and treatment planning, appliance design and construction, to adjustment procedures, tools and supplies. The company’s continuing education courses, specialized reference manuals, patient education and referral programs furnish ongoing practice building tools. With offices in the United States, Canada, Australia, Taiwan and Malaysia, Appliance Therapy Group services more than 150,000 dentists and orthodontists worldwide.
