The Restorative – TMD Patient: Diagnosis and Treatment Planning

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

St. Petersburg, FL – July 6, 2009 – The Dawson Academy is offering a new and dynamic hands-on course providing information that is applicable immediately to any dental office when relating to TM joint problems and restorative dentistry.

The Dawson Academy’s two-and-a-half day hands-on course, The Restorative – TMD Patient: Diagnosis and Treatment Planning, will be given by James (Jim) R. McKee, DDS, and will take place on Oct. 26-28, 2009 in Naperville, IL.

The course, open to both dentists and specialists, costs $4,000 per student and is limited to 12 participants.  Those who complete the course will receive a total of 20 continuing education credits.  The class is part of The Dawson Academy’s Advanced Restorative Elective Track, and to take the course, students should have completed Functional Occlusion – From TMJ to Smile Design and Achieving Predictable Esthetic Results courses.

About the Course
With the increased severity and frequency of problems related to the TM joint, it is imperative for today’s restorative and esthetic dentist to confidently recognize and diagnose TM joint problems.  Many patients present for treatment with an underlying TM joint problem that is not obvious and impacts the success of the treatment.  This course will provide a systematic process for each patient to determine which patients may be at risk because of the condition of the TM joint.  In addition to recognizing and diagnosing TM joint problems, case studies will allow for discussion of different topics of interest in restorative dentistry.  Topics may include using orthodontic implants to facilitate pre-restorative changes to tooth position; using computer generated surgical guides for implant placement and the use of direct resin to rebuild worn incisal edges.

About Advanced Restorative Electives
The Dawson Academy moves beyond the clinical competencies developed in the Core Curriculum to a deeper focus on advanced diagnosis and treatment planning.  These mastery level courses encourage deep exploration into the topics and significant interaction between instructors and students.  In this Track, our courses are designed to instill the confidence and ability to treat major restorative cases successfully.  Advanced diagnosis and treatment planning, especially sequencing complex cases, is the hallmark of the programming in the Advanced Restorative Track.  Specific “how-tos” of the most current materials, techniques and technologies are woven throughout these advanced offerings.
