Southern Craft Dental Lab Makes Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing Modeling More Efficient with Cadent Partnership

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (May 20, 2009) Southern Craft Dental Lab announced today it is partnering with digital scanning leader Cadent, Inc., to streamline the digital modeling process and produce crowns more quickly and efficiently.

In recent years, Southern Craft has milled crowns for dental practices that use the Cadent iTeroTM digital scanning system, but previously had to wait to receive computer aided design-produced models from Cadent before beginning the milling process. However, Southern Craft now has the ability to receive digital impressions before models are made. Thus, they are able to mill copings immediately and have them completed once models arrive from Cadent.

This closer working relationship with Cadent allows Southern Craft to dramatically reduce the time needed for producing final restorations, and therefore, deliver them more quickly to dental practices.
The Cadent iTero Digital Impression System is designed to replace the often messy and flawed tray-and-putty method of traditional impressions that is unpopular with many patients. The iTero system enables dentists to take a 3-D digital scan of a patient's mouth, make any necessary adjustments on the spot, and then transmit the file electronically to Cadent and Southern Craft, where the final restoration can be crafted with unprecedented precision and accuracy.

"The limitations of conventional impressions are well known,² said Jeb Bates, CEO of Southern Craft. "Dentists have long had to deal with shortcomings such as voids, pulls, and tears, and having to put patients through costly and inconvenient impression re-makes. With digitally accurate scans, our dental clients receive digitally accurate crowns. That makes seating appointments a lot more pleasant for everyone involved.² Founded in 1985, Southern Craft Dental Laboratory Inc. operates a lab in Gainesville, Ga.
