Hurricane Fabian postpones conference plans for 120 doctors for six months
Posted: November 3, 2003
When Hurricane Fabian roared directly through the mid-Atlantic island of Bermuda in early September, the Category 3 hurricane not only caused the worst damage in more than 50 years, but also forced the postponement of the annual Adhesive Dentistry Bermuda Style Symposium for the very first time.

Hosted by Clinician’s Choice Dental Products Inc., the symposium has been attracting hundreds of doctors from across North America who come year after year to enjoy a winning combination of first class seminar presentations by leading clinicians and first class relaxation activities in one of the most beautiful locations in the world.

This year, more than 120 doctors and auxiliaries were making last minute preparations to attend the Symposium at the Southampton Princess Resort in Hamilton, September 20-23, when Category 3 Hurricane Fabian hit the island head-on. With its sustained winds of 115 miles per hour, and gusts as high as 132 miles per hour, Fabian caused extensive damage to residential and commercial property as it swept across the small British Island dependency, leaving 26,000 homes without power.

The island’s causeway, linking the airport at the eastern tip with the City of Hamilton and the rest of the island was also damaged and fallen trees were blocking many roads. After prolonged consultations with the company’s travel agents and conference planners, Clinician’s Choice President, Peter Jordan, agreed that the best course of action was to reschedule the Symposium.

“Obviously, the doctors, speakers, and auxiliaries were disappointed when we phoned to let them know it had to be rescheduled, but they appreciated it was entirely out of our hands. The good news, is that many have already confirmed they’re coming to the new Symposium, now booked for April 22- 25, 2004.”

The venue – The Southampton Princess - remains unchanged, and Peter Jordan is quick to praise the efforts of the luxury resort’s management and staff. “The staff there were amazing. They handled the entire process seamlessly and worked with our travel agents to get us new dates in the spring that would fit our speakers’ busy schedules.”

The Southampton Princess is one of Bermuda’s premier resorts, and home to a spectacularly scenic 18-hole executive golf course, rated by Golf Digest magazine as one of the “Top 200 Best Places to Play in The World”.

In addition to exploring a host of island activities, conference attendees will enjoy four interactive half-day lectures with Robert Margeas DDS, Gary Alex DMD, Michael Miller DDS, and Gerald Denehy DDS. Lecture topics include Everyday Esthetic Dentistry: Clinical Challenges & Solutions; Ultimate Occlusion & Comprehensive Dentistry; 5-Star Products & Materials (what works, what does not); and Achieving Success with Anterior & Posterior Direct Restorations. A synopsis on each of these courses is available on the Clinician’s Choice web-site (www.clinicianschoice.com).
