The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) would like to congratulate and acknowledge more than 100 AGD members who have given their time and energy to Donated Dental Services(DDS), a program linking elderly or disabled patients with dentists in their own communities to receive free, comprehensive dental treatment, therefore touching thousands of lives.
"We would like to extend our appreciation and congratulations to our AGD members who on top of the required 75 hours of continuing education they must take to maintain their AGD membership every three years, have gone above and beyond to assist others," says AGD President Bruce Burton, DMD, MAGD, ABGD.
In 1986, the National Foundation of Dentistry for the Handicapped (NFDH) launched its first DDS program and since then AGD members, along with other dental professionals, have helped almost 70,000 disabled and elderly people receive more than $100 million worth of free, comprehensive and donated treatments. Endorsed by the AGD, the DDS program is a welcome option for many who cannot afford treatment or receive public aid—and it offers dentists an easy but important way to give back to their communities.
The AGD strives to serve the needs and represent the interests of general dentists, to promote the oral health of the public, and to foster continued proficiency of general dentists through quality continuing dental education in order to better serve the public.
