METUCHEN, N.J.—MouthWatch announced the five winners of its TeleDent Mobile Dentistry Accelerator Awards.

The awards were created to help mobile dentistry programs relaunch after being shut down by the COVID-19 pandemic. Eligibility for the awards was open to for-profit and non-profit mobile dentistry programs at any stage of development.

The five winners or the winners of the TeleDent Mobile Dentistry Accelerator Awards are listed below in alphabetical order:

1. Appalachian Miles for Smiles / Virginia, and Tennessee
This non-profit operates three dental tractor trailers to serve uninsured and underinsured residents of East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. In the past five years they have provided over 3-million dollars of free dental care to substance abusers with dental pain, the homeless, veterans living on the street, and undocumented children, without turning away anyone in need. The dental team consists of a few staff members and many volunteers to serve ten counties across Virginia and Tennessee

2. Everlasting Smiles 4 U / Washington State
Paula Nguyen, RDH, a solo practitioner, provides oral care to homebound and bed bound patients throughout the state of Washington who live in private homes, nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Ms. Nguyen also works private practice as an employee and travels up to 3 hours each way to provide care with Everlasting Smiles 4U on her weekends.

3. In Motion Dentists / California
In this privately owned company, Dr. Banner and his team provide dentist house call services to special needs and elderly residents of LA County, Orange County, San Bernardino County and Riverside County. The team at In Motion Dentists aims to provide dental treatment to those who cannot visit a traditional office setting due to physical, developmental, and mental challenges.

4. Minnesota Community Care / Minnesota
The largest FQHC in the state provides oral care to the homeless with 50 employees and 4th year dental students from the University of Minnesota. MCC also operates 3 dental clinics and utilizes Advanced Dental Therapists to provide care in an outreach setting. The goal is to increase access to care at satellite locations for the homeless population

5. Prevent Dental Caries Project (PDC) / Utah
The mission of PDC is to increase access to dental care and to prevent dental decay before it occurs through education and early intervention. Through collaborative agreements between dental hygienists and dentists and the use of teledentistry, PDC is bringing diagnostic preventive services to high-risk patients wherever they may be,
