What Your Degree Means

5/18/2021 12:00:00 PM   |   Comments: 0   |   Views: 21

Dentistry is about the patient. You have to care for the patient, and they have to be able to understand what dental care they’re receiving. When looking for a dentist, people look for testimonials, reviews, and bios of the dentist. Your credentials are not on that list.

Your degree likely has no meaning for potential patients. They’re glad to see you have it, it would be weird if you didn’t, but they don’t know what it means. DMD, DDS, FAGD, MAGD, it’s all the same to people unfamiliar with dentistry.

Your patients pay attention to who you are. Can you speak their language? Do they feel comfortable around you? Are you a genuine person? Patients evaluate you based on your personality and chairside manner, not on the number of initials after your name. While they may not be able to say it was the greatest filing ever done in the history of dentistry, they will be able to say they feel better than they did when they walked in and that you and your staff were super friendly.
