What is Root Canal Treatment?

Root canal treatment, also known as ( endodontic treatment or root canal therapy ) is a dental procedure used to remove bacteria causing an infection in the root of your tooth.  A root canal is usually recommended when you have a more serious infection than just a common cavity. This is a fairly common dental practice used to save millions of teeth each year.

How Do I Know If I Need A Root Canal Treatment?

Poor Dental Hygiene, genetics, or an injury can all be the cause of an infection that will lead up to the need for a root canal treatment. The infection in your tooth will begin to cause some discomfort, tooth pain, or high sensitivity.

Symptoms associated with the need for root canal therapy:

  • Chipped or Cracked Tooth
  •
  • Swollen Inflamed Gums
  •
  • Lingering sensitivity to cold or hot foods
  •
  • Darkening gums or teeth
  •
  • Small pimple or bump on the gums

How Much Does A Root Canal Cost?

On average, root canals are priced between $700 - $1,000. The cost is measured based on the number of roots that need to be removed. Root canals are generally very standard, however, there are times when complications occur in root canals that will increase the price. The best way to get a definitive price is to schedule a consultation with your local dentist.

Does Dental Insurance Cover A Root Canal?

A Root Canal is considered a major dental procedure. Most insurances will help cover at least a portion of root canal therapy. On average, about 35% - 80% of the expenses for this treatment will be covered. The overall amount covered will be determined by what type of dental insurance you have.

Is There Any Additional Cost Associated With A Root Canal?

Generally, after a root canal, the tooth structure becomes more vulnerable and susceptible to breaking. In this case, a dental crown is needed to protect the tooth from any further damage and increase its longevity. Dental crowns are an additional expense when receiving endodontic treatment. Your dental insurance may also cover a portion of the cost of a dental crown in Houston
