OREM, Utah—TuttleNumbNow cited a peer-reviewed study published in the Journal of Dental Anesthesia and Pain Medicine that supports its approach to intraosseous anesthesia, the technique behind its TNN system for delivering immediate, targeted numbness.

Intraosseous anesthesia places anesthetic directly into the bone adjacent to the tooth rather than relying on a traditional nerve block. The study, published in the journal’s April 2026 issue, evaluated the technique’s clinical effectiveness, according to the company.

According to the retrospective study, 94% of lower first molars did not require an IA block, but 29% required dual anesthetic agents of Articaine (Septo) and Mepivacaine (Carbo). All lower first molars received Intraosseous injections in both Mesial and Distal as the primary injections. The company said the technique reduced the need for supplemental injections, limited numbness in surrounding tissues such as the lips and tongue, and worked well in cases that are typically difficult to anesthetize, including symptomatic lower molars.

Study contributors included Carter Newell and Jared Tuttle, both of UT Health San Antonio, the company said.

“These results show the potential for a TNN intraosseous approach to improve both patient and dentist experience,” said Jill Taylor, an author of the study.
