New Online CE Educational Series

Dentaltown proudly announces the launch of a new educational series of CE courses. This new course series is designed to educate and inform dentists on current clinical procedures in a progressive format.

Course 1: Implementing Dental Implants into the General Practice

Speaker:Samuel Strong, DDS

Synopsis:
This program describes a proven protocol for evaluating and presenting treatment options to the prospective implant patient. An organized method for collecting necessary clinical information and educating the patient in order to more effectively communicate the benefits of implant treatment is presented. Visual aids, patient education tools and a pre-surgical implant checklist are used to properly plan the implant case.

Educational objectives: Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Understand current demographic trends relevant to the potential implant population.
  • Learn the key to proper treatment planning using a diagnostic work-up.
  • Learn the essential items required for effective case presentation.
  • Use an informed consent for implant prosthetics using video and written methods.
  • Take photos needed for analysis and patient viewing.
  • Understand why bone atrophy is the most important concept to explain to potential implant patients.

Course 2: Basic Implant Prosthetics, a Primer for the General Practice

Speaker:Samuel Strong, DDS

Synopsis:
In this program, Dr. Strong illustrates step-by-step procedures to complete the prosthetic procedures for implant supported single crowns, fixed bridges and removable overdentures (both bar and attachment retained). These procedures can be readily incorporated into the standard general practice with a minimal learning curve.

The potential cases for posterior single implant crowns and attachment retained overdentures is staggering given current demographics. Learn how to utilize existing technology to expand your patient options and office production.

Educational objectives: Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Make a fixture level impression.
  • Learn the appointments to complete a bar retained overdenture case.
  • Use the Locator abutment for an attachment retained overdenture.
  • Understand how to use a temporary cement for implants.
  • Understand how to evaluate the case costs for any implant case.

Contemporary Implant Dentistry and Removable Prosthodontics

Speaker:Jerome Smith, DDS

Synopsis:
This presentation covers many of the available techniques and concepts for employing dental implants into treatment for both partially and fully edentulous patients.

Particular emphasis is placed on the application of using individual implant retentive abutments as the primary means of affording optimal stabilization for removable prosthetics, whether used in a free-standing manner or as part of a bar system. Additional important technical information is included to help cover these techniques in a more comprehensive fashion.

Educational objectives: Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Fully understand the various treatment options available for edentulous patients today and how they differ.
  • Get a better grasp on the technical aspects of available implant retentive components and understand their similarities and differences.
  • View side-by-side comparisons of available individual implant abutment components and how they differ in terms of durability, flexibility with respect to angulation concerns, interchangeability, etc. in edentulous patients.
  • Illustrate various “tips and techniques,” which will aid practitioners in implementing these implant restorative procedures.
  • Get additional information on the details of a particular attachment system as related to its usability in individual locations as well as a part of a superstructure and the mechanics involved.

Low Back Pain in Dentistry: Bridging the Gap Between Ergonomics & Work-related Pain

Speaker:Bethany Valachi, MS, PT, CEAS

Synopsis:
An average of one out of two dentists or hygienists experience chronic low back pain that can effect quality of life, productivity or career longevity. In fact, nearly one-third of dentists who retire early are forced to do so because of a musculoskeletal disorder.

This ground-breaking seminar fills a void in the dental education—bridging the gap between dental ergonomics and work-related low back pain. Discover how dentistry and equipment selection are impacting your physical health, and implement effective prevention strategies based on clinical experience and research in the areas of dental ergonomics, biomechanics, kinesiology and physiology.

Educational objectives: Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Identify the microtrauma and risk factors that contribute to low back pain (LBP) in dentistry.
  • Understand how features and adjustments on operator stools impact the lower back.
  • Position patients optimally to reduce low back strain.
  • Identify operatory layouts and delivery systems that may exacerbate LBP.
  • Implement correct postures and body mechanics to stabilize and protect the lumbar spine.
  • Perform chairside stretches to reduce microtrauma and muscle imbalances.
  • Target specific muscles in a strengthening program and understand why certain exercises can worsen low back pain in dental professionals.
