Practice Management System Update

Practice Management System Update

When we took over Oxford Dental Care there was one computer running Easy Dental. Paper charts were being kept even though there was a practice management system in place. Our first upgrade was the computer system.

We purchased some great computers for each operatory and for the receptionist from http://outlet.lenovo.com/ which were an awesome deal. We installed Open Dental as our new practice management system and got the information transferred over quite seamlessly (cost $700). We took a weekend to learn Open Dental and then implemented it the next Monday.

The staff caught on very quickly and were happy with the upgrades. We used Tesia Bridge to electronically submit insurance claims and so far we are very happy with their service as well.

Things we learned in hindsight.

1. Try to purchase the necessary computers yourself since you can probably get them for less than your IT person will charge you.

2. Leave yourself time to learn your practice management system thoroughly before implementing it, or pay a trainer to come in.

3. Open Dental was the best deal we could find for a software with all of the features we wanted.

4. Open Dental has the most robust reporting system, in our opinion, if you learn to use the queries.

Feel free to contact us on our website linked above if you have any questions about how we went about doing these upgrades.
