In this comprehensive course, participants will delve into the transformative role of lasers in prosthetic and implant dentistry. The curriculum covers a range of laser types, including CO2, Nd:YAG, and Er:YAG,diode lasers and their applications in procedures such as osseointegration, soft tissue contouring. Participants will learn how lasers offer unparalleled precision and reduced trauma, leading to quicker healing times and less postoperative discomfort for patients. The course will feature live demonstrations, case studies equipping dental professionals with the skills needed to integrate laser technology into their practice effectively.

However, it's crucial to understand that laser technology is not a one-size-fits-all solution. The course will also address the limitations and contraindications of using lasers in prosthetic and implant dentistry. For instance, certain lasers may not be suitable for all types of tissues or prosthetic materials, and improper use can lead to thermal damage. Participants will engage in critical discussions about when to opt for traditional surgical methods over laser-assisted techniques. By the end of the course, attendees will have a balanced understanding of the benefits and limitations of lasers, enabling them to make informed decisions in clinical settings.

Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:

  • Identify the different types of lasers commonly used in restorative and implant dentistry, such as CO2, Nd:YAG, and Er:YAG, diode lasers and understand their unique properties and applications.
  •
  • Demonstrate proficiency in laser-assisted techniques for soft tissue management, including gingival contouring and frenectomies.
  •
  • Evaluate the role of lasers in enhancing osseointegration for dental implants, including the preparation of implant sites and post-operative care.
  •
  • Understand the safety protocols and contraindications associated with laser use, including the potential for thermal damage and tissue burns.
  •
  • Compare and contrast the benefits and limitations of laser-assisted procedures versus traditional surgical methods in restorative and implant dentistry.
Dr. Bilski is the clinical co-director at the Midwest Implant Institute, Columbus, Ohio, where he instructs doctors in cosmetic and dental implant concepts related to esthetics and restoring anterior teeth in a “hands on” format. He received his dental implantology fellowship from the Midwest Implant Institute in 2010 and completed his externship program in 1992. Tom has been helping dentists implement surgical dental implant procedures into to their general dental practices, helping dentists recognize the opportunities that implant dentistry brings to their general dental practices and relate the increased practice growth with their return on investment as new technology and training are integrated within their practices.

Tom has written many books on the topics of removable restorations in implant dentistry, digital workflow in restorative dentistry, smile design, custom designs for esthetic implant procedures, safe Botox procedures for dentistry, cone beam technology (in sleep apnea, TMJ/Migraine therapy, endodontics and implant dentistry treatment planning).

Dr. Bilski contributed articles that have appeared in peer-reviewed professional journals such as the Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry, Winter 2008 Volume 23, CDE World (Aegis Communications; Peer-reviewed) July 2017 and September 2017, Dental Products Report (January 2013 and January 2014) and currently provides additional articles and webinars for Aegis Communications (CDE World) on topics including C02 lasers for soft tissue management in restorative dentistry, placement and restoration of zirconia implants, opiate prescription guidelines for dental surgery and alternatives, cone beam technology (CBCT) applications within general dentistry and innovations within operative dentistry (specifically in direct bonding techniques). Dr. Bilski has made significant contributions to the field of laser dentistry. He is a co-contributor to the world's #1 selling laser dentistry textbook, 'Principles and Practice of Laser Dentistry, Third Edition,' alongside Dr. Robert Convissar, with a focus on lasers in implant dentistry. Published by Elsevier, this groundbreaking textbook has seen translations in multiple languages including Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, and Chinese, with the third edition eagerly anticipated for its release on December 15, 2022, and expected to garner even more global translations.

After graduation from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry (1988) he began his practice in Independence, Ohio with a special emphasis on esthetic and restorative dentistry. Since then, Dr. Bilski provides general dental care, Smile Makeovers for Victims of Domestic Violence and educational seminars within his community to keep his community and patients aware of available technology and alternatives to help optimize their dental health.

Dr.Bilski is a member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, American Dental Association, and a key opinion leader for Komet-USA, Keystone Dental Implants, Parkell (Directa Dental), Insight Dental Systems Diamond Dental Supply and Prexion.
