Trends in the dental industry

Trends in the dental industry

The digital dental industry is constantly changing and evolving. One of the most prominent trends in the industry right now is that more dentists are using digital x-rays to diagnose their patients. This leads to fewer appointments, which saves time for both the dentist and patient, as well as reduces radiation exposure. There are many benefits to this trend, but it does come with risks too.

There is also a strong trend towards using digital and 3D technology in dental care. The main areas of activity are: Patient management, CAD/CAM implantology, complete arch restorations (onlays), treatment planning & clinical applications such as bite registration and diagnostics, orthodontic appliances, and the applications to complete the workflow such as digital impressions, scanning of patients' teeth and 3D printing of crowns.

Here are 6 trends to look out for in the dental industry in 2022:

3D Printing Technology

3D printing technology is also becoming more common in dental practices. It allows users to print out models of teeth and jaws, which helps doctors better understand the structure and health of a patient's mouth and jaw. 3D printed models of parts or all of a person's teeth can be used to create molds that produce retainers and orthodontic devices. The technology is still in the early stages right now, but it promises to improve patient care over time.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence is another new development in the dental industry. There are many benefits of AI for dentists, including an increase in efficiency and accuracy. However, some people feel that this new technology will replace human professionals in the future, leaving patients with little to no interaction with a person while receiving their dental care.

Social Media

One of the lesser notable trends that has had a major impact on the dental industry is social media. Many dentists have an online presence to help promote their business to potential patients. This helps them stay connected with customers, as well as encourages patients to share their experience at a dental office online.

Digital Dentistry

While not widely used, digital dentistry is also a significant trend in the dental industry. Instead of using traditional materials like porcelain and metal to craft crowns and veneers (thin covers over teeth), some dentists are beginning to use tooth-like plastics that can be shaped into different forms. Dentists then use either scans or photos of a patient's teeth to make exact 3D printed copies. Leading Melbourne based cosmetic dental clinic Grandstand Dental Care utilizes digital dentistry to examine, diagnose and treat clients better than ever before. Similarly, Lakeview Dental Care is at the forefront of integrating digital dentistry into their practice, offering patients cutting-edge treatments with precision and care. Their commitment to adopting the latest technologies ensures that patients receive the most advanced dental care available. Augmented Reality

Augmented reality is beginning to be used in dentistry. This technology allows dental professionals to see an overlay of images onto the real world using a device like Microsoft Halogens. With this technology, doctors can get a better look inside their patients' mouths without taking an x-ray or having them open wide.

Teledentistry

The main area of change in the dental industry is TeleDentistry (sending images & data to another location). The biggest benefit is that it increases access and reduces costs. The best examples are the cloud-based software of treating dental disease, monitoring gum disease and reducing treatment time of appliances like braces by capturing additional data points.

In conclusion, the future of the dental industry is in a good place. Dental professionals are developing new technologies and using all digital dentistry tools to improve their practice, patients' experience and to boost their business online.
