Consultant Tip: Filling Short-Notice Changes

If the Scheduling Coordinator just can't prevent a change in the schedule, the next best thing is that any changes in the schedule be filled immediately.

This means that if a patient says they can't make it tomorrow, you need to fill that slot before tomorrow gets here and you are all standing around with nothing to do. A provider without a patient is a provider that is temporarily unemployed.

The best way to find a patient on short notice is to keep and use a Requested Time Call List. It is a running list of patients that want to come in sooner.

You are providing a great service to your patients when you can accommodate their special needs in a busy world. And sometimes you can fit a patient in on short notice if you're even close to a time they requested and they know you're trying to help them out.

Keep your eyes peeled for patients who'd like to be on this list. As soon as a change occurs in the schedule, get on it and fill that time!
