(CARLSBAD, CA) May 10, 2004 – Zimmer Dental Inc., a leading provider of dental oral rehabilitation products and a division of Zimmer Holdings, Inc., is pleased to announce the availability of the modified 17mm-long Dríva reusable surgical drill. The drill has been modified to indicate an 11.5mm laser-etched depth marking featured on the drill’s cutting shaft which facilitates proper drilling depth for placement of the new 11.5mm Tapered Screw-Vent® dental implant, which Zimmer Dental plans to release later this year. Availability of the modified Dríva drill prior to release of the 11.5mm Tapered Screw-Vent implant will help ensure clinicians a smooth drill inventory transition, as this drill will be required for placement of the new 11.5mm Tapered Screw-Vent implant. The modified drill features on its top shank an etched listing that reflects the drilling depths marked on the lower cutting shaft. The listing provides clinicians an at-a-glance verification of the correct drill choice for the implant length they intend to use. Part numbers and pricing of the modified drill, as well as the standard Zimmer Dental drilling sequence for Tapered Screw-Vent, AdVent® and straight Screw-Vent® dental implant body diameters, remain as they have been for the earlier version of the 17mm-long Dríva drill.
All Dríva drills feature grooved and laser-etched depth bands that make visual measurement easier, and a matte finish that reduces glare. The drills’ patent-pending cutting geometry enhances precision and cutting ability, and the corrosion-resistant coating protects drill sharpness and increases longevity.
Using an advanced grade of surgical stainless steel, Dríva drills require an average of 41% less insertion force to create an osteotomy when measured against comparable drills manufactured from traditional surgical materials1, for a faster, more precise drilling procedure.
