Exploring the Potential of Metal-Based Antibacterial Gels in Endodontics

Posted: January 7, 2025
The study explored the effectiveness of metal-based antibacterial gels containing copper and silver nanoparticles for root canal disinfection. Copper nanoparticles showed higher efficacy against bacteria compared to silver, but had higher toxicity levels. The gels were less effective than sodium hypochlorite but comparable to calcium hydroxide. Development of antimicrobial gels requires careful consideration of composition and properties. Additional research is needed to validate the safety and efficacy of these gels for endodontic use.
