Innovative Auxiliary Aids for Pain and Anxiety Reduction in Pediatric Dental Procedures: A Systematic Review

Posted: January 8, 2025
A systematic review examined the effectiveness of auxiliary aids like Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS), vibrotactile devices, and Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) in reducing pain and anxiety during dental local anesthesia in pediatric patients. The review included 19 studies with 1094 pediatric patients aged 4–12. TENS and vibrotactile devices consistently reduced pain and anxiety, while LLLT outcomes varied. Further research is needed to standardize LLLT protocols. The study underscores the potential of these aids as non-invasive and effective tools to alleviate pain and anxiety in pediatric dental procedures.
