Innovative Use of Nanoparticulate CaCO3 Enhances Biological Properties of Calcium Silicate Cement

Posted: January 2, 2025
This groundbreaking study investigated the effects of nanoparticulate CaCO3 (NPCC) on the biological properties of calcium silicate-based cements (CSCs), revealing significant enhancements in cytotoxicity, osteogenic activity, and bone regeneration. The incorporation of NPCC in CSCs demonstrated improved cell viability, enhanced expression of osteogenic genes, and increased mineralization in cell cultures. Furthermore, NPCC accelerated CSC resorption, resulting in enhanced bone regeneration at the implantation site in rat femurs. These findings suggest that CSC-NPCC has great potential as a biodegradable bone cement for bone defect areas requiring regeneration.
