Study on Efficacy of Topical Anesthetics in Reducing Pain During Inferior Alveolar Nerve Block in Schoolchildren

Posted: November 27, 2024
A randomized controlled trial evaluated the efficacy of topical anesthetics - 20% benzocaine, 8% lidocaine gel, and 5% EMLA cream - in reducing pain during inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB) in children aged 6–10 years. The study found that 8% lidocaine gel was not superior to 20% benzocaine or 5% EMLA in reducing pain during IANB administration. The results suggest that applying topical anesthetic before IANB can effectively reduce pain in pediatric patients. The study highlights the importance of effective pain management strategies in pediatric dentistry.
