The COVID-19 pandemic led to a significant increase in antibiotic prescriptions among dentists, despite fewer in-person consultations. Many of the prescriptions were not clinically indicated, raising concerns about antibiotic misuse and antimicrobial resistance. Proper antibiotic stewardship is urgently needed in dentistry to prevent these issues. Dentists play a crucial role in antibiotic overuse, contributing to antibiotic resistance globally. Implementing shared decision-making tools and adhering to clinical guidelines can reduce unnecessary antibiotic use and combat antimicrobial resistance in dental practice.
