After he was diagnosed with oral cancer in July, this Townie had less than two weeks to find a locum who could help keep his practice open for months while he recuperated from surgery. Over eight hours, five surgeons removed half his tongue, transplanted skin and the radial artery from his left hand to his left tongue, and grafted skin from his thigh to cover his arm. The ordeal left him with “a burning desire to make the best of my second chance in life,” he says.

This Townie, who won the 2019 Townie Choice Awards cover feature grand prize, has owned a practice in South San Diego for four years and credits the Dentaltown community for helping her develop both clinical and business management skills. “I just recently switched merchant processing services, and one of the competing vendors I talked to was completely taken aback by the level of detail I got into with them—this is all thanks to Dentaltown!”
