You Should Know: Molar Media Mount by Arselia Gales, Assistant Editor

What is your background in dental?
Culberson: I graduated from the University of Washington School of Dentistry in 2001 and have been in private practice ever since. Even though I invented the Molar Media Mount, I still work full-time in my practice and use the product every day.

Tell me about Molar Media Mount, and what you provide.
Culberson: The Molar Media Mount dramatically improves the patient experience in the dental office in a way that is extremely easy and cost-effective. The product is simple: a bar mounted to your dental light holds an iPad or similar device. The patient picks his or her favorite movie or TV show and can watch, no matter what the chair's angle. There's no need for expensive wiring and installation. Instead of your patient struggling through anger management after two hours of drilling, he's laughing at Adam Sandler in "Anger Management" on Netflix.

What is the philosophy at Molar Media Mount?
Culberson: In dental school we were judged on whether our amalgam fillings had converging walls, and whether our crown preps had the proper taper. These concepts became so engrained in us that now, it's often how we judge our success today. We sometimes forget that there's a person connected to the tooth and they're not impressed with our burnishing skills. To a patient, it all comes down to the experience. Our philosophy at Molar Media Mount is to create a product that increases patient satisfaction in an easy and cost-effective manner.

What would you consider the "best-kept secret" about Molar Media Mount?
Culberson: The iPad does not have to stay on the mount. Unclip it in seconds and show a patient some photos of some of your "before and after" cases. Maybe educate her about periodontal disease using preloaded educational software or websites. Have her sign a consent form on the iPad for a tooth extraction. Then take the iPad into another operatory and clip it into another Molar Media Mount and let him watch Justin Bieber on YouTube (remember, it's the patient's choice, not yours). You don't need an iPad for each mount, and thus it's very cost-effective.

How can a practice begin working with you?
Culberson: Visit www.MolarMediaMount.com. Check out our product, watch our commercials (I guarantee you will find them informative and actually hilarious). You can email or call with any questions. Order a mount and five minutes after you receive it, you will use it. We have a money-back guarantee. There's no risk.

What kind of service can dentists expect when they pick up the phone and call you?
Culberson: Remember, I'm not some offshore corporation. My primary job is [working as] a dentist, just like you. I really want you to benefit from my product. I know the challenges of dentistry and I am genuinely excited to have something to make your job easier and your patients happier. When you contact Molar Media Mount you are contacting me. And I use the product every day.

Anything else you'd like to add or tell us about Molar Media Mount?
Culberson: Just a funny story. The other day I was doing a filling on a 6-year-old when all of a sudden she started to wave her hand. "Great," I thought. "Another anxious kid." I asked her what was wrong and it turns out the assistant had bumped the iPad and she couldn't see Dora doing her exploring. It took two seconds to adjust the iPad on the mount and she was exceptionally compliant and still. She focused on Dora and her backpack while I focused on her MOD on tooth J.
