Death of Dentistry? Challenges to the Professions Evolution

Evolution Challenges

Input

Devaluation: Inadequate reimbursement relative to wRVUs of medical counterparts, removal of government agency representation, other professional who have gained rights in certain states to bill dental codes.

Dilution: Professional opinion overshadowed by other health professionals
state water fluoridation issues value the opinion of Pharmacist, Chiropractors, Physicians, and water treatment specialist for benefit/risk of more than the Dentist.
Published inferences that treatment has more risks than benefits (i.e., denture microplastics, composites/amalgams)

Degradation: Marketing and movie portrayal (Horrible Bosses, Little Shop of Horrors, The Hangover, The Dentist, Marathon Man, Novocaine, SNL, etc.)
Nurses that supervise or manage the Dentist in FQHCs and Health Department settings suggests incompetence of the profession.

Output

Isolation from other healthcare professionals, patient nonadherence/compliance, income attrition, psychological stress (questioning professional value), physical injury (high patient load), shorter professional careers

Will the profession rise from the ashes?

If so, who is responsible for changing the narrative to empower Dentist, promote the professional use case beyond chairside and garnering (off camera) respect from medical counterparts? (ADA?)

Does 350K tuition and growing make sense with limited professional growth opportunity? Because my empirical findings suggest growing numbers have buyers remorse.
