Dental Root Canal Procedure

Root canal treatment can help save a tooth that suffers from nerve damage due to infection or decay. It can help you retain your natural tooth and thus avoid the need for an artificial one. Additionally, a dental root canal helps maintain tooth alignment and prevent jaw-related dental issues.

The removal of nerve in a root canal treatment does not hamper functions or cause much damage since the tooth does not rely on the nerve for most of its usual functions.

Root Canal Procedure

You might need to visit your dentist’s office more than once for a dental root canal procedure. The dentist will start by using a local anesthetic to desensitize the infected area. After that, they may use a rubber dam in the region around the location to protect it from bacteria.

The dentist then drills a hole in the affected tooth for gaining access to the root canal so that they can clear away the pulp and cleanse the entire area meticulously. Finally, they seal the hole created to reach the root canal with a filling.  Read more to find out things to do after a root canal.

A root canal can help save a tooth by removing the decay in the tooth pulp, and despite contrary popular notion, is a relatively straightforward procedure.
