Synopsis:


This presentation covers current all ceramic systems from selection criteria to their application in veneer, inlay, onlay, crown and implant application. Current issues on how to simplify digital smile design to communicate with the patient and new materials for aesthetic prototypes (mock-ups) is introduced. A simple three-step system (the shade trilogy) is detailed that greatly minimizes remakes because of shade mismatches. New and past adhesives are compared and issues and research with new adhesives are featured. Recorded Live at Townie Meeting 2014!


Educational Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:
  • Treatment planning all-ceramics for anterior cases: which system for which case
  • When to use feldspathic, vs. glass ceramics, vs. zirconia
  • Simple Photoshop Smile Design that can be done in two to three minutes to show the patient
  • New materials and techniques for aesthetic prototypes (EP for short) - formally called “mock-ups”
  • The “Shade Trilogy” photography, computers and Photoshop for shade analysis
  • When to inlay, when to onlay, and when to crown and material selection
  • New glass ceramics and hybrid materials
  • Current State of the art for zirconia in dentistry
  • Past and current adhesives for immediate dental sealing and final cementation of indirect restorations
Description of Speaker:
Dr. McLaren is a prosthodontist, professor and director of post-graduate aesthetic dentistry at the UCLA School of Dentistry. He is the director of the UCLA Center for Esthetic Dentistry, a full time didactic and clinical program for graduate dentists. He is also the founder and director of the UCLA Master Dental Ceramist program. The residency program is a full-time master ceramist program for dental technicians featuring extensive experience with the newest aesthetic restorative systems. Dr. McLaren maintains a private practice limited to prosthodontics and aesthetic dentistry in which he does all of his own ceramics. Dr. McLaren is actively involved in many areas of prosthodontic and materials research and has authored over 80 articles. He is performing ongoing clinical research on various restorative systems. He has presented numerous lectures, hands-on clinics and postgraduate courses on ceramics and aesthetics across the nation and internationally. He recently published a book, on his ceramic techniques and features dental photographic art, entitled “The Art of Passion: Ceramics, Teeth, Faces, and Places.”
