So I have a patient who really likes to chew gum. The dentures we just made for him fit very well and he has no sore spots but he chews gum a lot and bits of it stick to the denture. He has a hard time getting these little bits back off - anybody have any suggestions for how to make this easier?

Chewing gum ....I have when my lab used a sealent, that was supposed to protect the polish, but in fact the sealent stains terribly. This could be a curry stain of such a sealent. Bonder like Bond LC from Anaxdent Use Gum composite from Anaxdent to sculpt, lightcure. Do not put this into a Triad or similar lightbox, they get too hot and distort the denture. This is all pink composite Delete Run away.... Don't get involved in this if you don't have to. I use denture reline material and bulk up the facial of the anterior flang.

for a Locator, theres nothing to do. A valplast denture with 11 teeth is a guarantee to fail. Valplast is expensive chewing gum and with 11 teeth it is just ridiculous. There is nothing to stabilize this denture. There is a way to add to it, but that doesn't work for relines and definitely not for soft relines. You will need to make a new, proper denture. is the best and you can do this in your office to save $$$ and time. Soft reline material can't be polished, especially not with pumice, polishing will cause the soft material to de-bond from the denture. We usually use a large acrylic bur to gently trim off the excess, we also instruct the patient to wear it for at least 6 hours for the material to adapt to the gums.

I referred a patient because every time we cleaned her teeth, her gums would bruise, slough or form ulcers. She finally went to see a specialist (she was in denial) and they diagnosed pemphigus. She recently lost a tooth and wants it replaced with a denture. It is #3 and no other tooth so would you make a unilateral tooth supported denture or a pud with a palatal strap?
