old Hispanic man with a small area of decay on the lingual of #3. Decay extended below gum line a few mm...With amalgam, I was able to numb ONLY on the buccal (easy injection) and by using a large inverted cone, clean out all decay and place amalgam in under 15 min total..Cost? about $100

, many more examples where amalgam makes more PRACTICAL sense but of course composite COULD be placed after removing gum tissue, extra injections, rubber dam and a MUCH higher fee.. I posted an actual patient example where a 50+ year old man had a slightly subgingival cavity on the lingual

in Pepsi and chew gum 8 hours a day, we'll be replacing them in about 3 years or less. My son finished his first year of dental school at Ohio State and I'm happy to report he was taught how to place Class I and Class II amalgams in the pre-clinical lab. Thank you again for your honesty and wisdom
