know how to get it back to normal? That whole piece is a clamshell which will come apart exposing the innards. Should be two screws on the other side (opposite the button, at the pivots - I think). Odds are good some disinfectant got in there and gummed up the mechanism or it just got jammed. Either way, opening it up will allow you to see what the problem is so you can then free it.

My spare vacuum installation has a three way valve in my plans, to make switching between main and spare machine easy. This would be instead of the more cumbersome quick disconnect 2 hoses. When switching to spare vacuum (which you should run every week to keep the wet ring seal healthy) is it bad for the air pressure to go through a 2 right angle? Will I still have decent suction or do I have to rethink my tubing plans?

Maybe buy a pack of Blackjack gum for dental olfactory nostalgia.
