Phoenix, Arizona - August 19, 2014 -
The City of Phoenix has recognized SmartPractice a healthy Arizona worksite with a FitPHX Business Award.

Healthy Arizona Worksites are businesses that are making efforts to positively affect the health and well-being of their employees, families and communities. FitPHX is an initiative led by Mayor Greg Stanton, Councilman Daniel Valenzuela and Olympic Gold Medalist Misty Hyman. The goal of FitPHX is to improve health and wellness in the area and make Phoenix one of the healthiest cities in the nation. So far, 33 Phoenix businesses are participating reaching more than 75,000 employees.

Prior to winning a FitPHX award, SmartPractice was tapped to assist with the City’s wellness initiative. "Everyone at SmartPractice is honored to be named a FitPHX Business Winner,” says VP of Human Resources Meg Mosher. “We are proud to partner with the FitPHX initiative alongside Mayor Stanton and Councilman Valenzuela. We share their passion for wellness and for making the city of Phoenix one of the healthiest places to live. At SmartPractice, our commitment to wellness extends beyond our employees and families to our customers and communities.”

At a FitPHX training seminar on June 3, Meg Mosher and Benefits Manager Mike McGhee presented Leadership and Culture, a look inside the SmartPractice Wellness Program. Companies that attended are in the beginning stages of creating their own wellness programs. The pair outlined the wellness program’s best practices that have developed over the last 24 years, as well as what makes the SmartPractice program unique and progressive.

The company holds on-site biometric screenings, fitness tests and health risk assessments every year. More than 90% participate in biometric and health risk assessments and 80% complete fitness tests. Wellness is more than a program at SmartPractice; it is the culture. One that the staff embraces which reflects in incredibly high participation compared to 50% for most companies’ wellness programs.

Employees are shown the correlation between oral health and overall systemic health to help them make educated decisions about their health. Inspired by the unwavering dedication to wellness of President & CEO Dr. Curt Hamman, the mission to create Healthier Practices and Healthier Patients emerged.
