Why I Made the Switch: Omnichroma by Dr. Victor Cedillo Felix

Why I Made the Switch: Omnichroma

Omnichroma in daily practice: What works, what doesn’t

by Dr. Victor Cedillo Felix

Restoring anterior and posterior teeth has always been a challenge. We want materials that are strong, easy to shade-match, and simple to handle, and with as few syringes as possible. For years, I relied on multiple composites and kept a wide range of shades on hand. This often meant extra time selecting, organizing, and managing inventory. Once I tried reduced-shade composites, the difference was clear. It simplified my workflow, reduced the number of syringes I needed, and still delivered natural results in direct restorations. The convenience and reliability convinced me to make the switch.

Omnichroma meets these demands both physically and aesthetically. Its high-filler load (79% by weight) and uniform spherical supranano-fillers provide excellent wear resistance, low shrinkage, and high flexural strength. These properties give me confidence that restorations will remain strong after curing. I also use Omnichroma Flow, which works well as a liner, for small restorations and other versatile applications.

When I first began using Omnichroma, I was pleased with most results. However, in cases with dark staining, such as from old amalgams, sclerotic dentin, or missing tooth structure, the final shade sometimes appeared gray. That is where Omnichroma Blocker became valuable, reducing interference from dark substrates. For challenging anterior zones, I still prefer layering with traditional multi-shade composites for more precise, aesthetic control.

Overall, Omnichroma is a clever, time-saving system that elevates daily dentistry.
